SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has filed its first-ever felony criminal charges against a company for wage theft.The charges stem from an investigation by the District Attorney’s newly formed “Workers Protection Unit.”

The Nor Cal Carpenters Union worked side by side with Attorney General Rob Bonta and his department to hold US Framing West, Inc accountable for 31 felony counts of wage theft, grand theft and payroll tax evasion.

Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz and Councilmember Tyler Maxwell announced on Monday the City’s first legal action for alleged wage theft against Pinnacle Hospitality and Development, CEO Lakhwinder Singh Brar and contractor Juan Moreno.

Behind drywall, between insulation, and under roof rafters, wooden skeletons frame senior residencies, single and multi-family homes, and dorm halls throughout Northern California.  RJP Framing, Inc. (“RJP Framing”), a California contractor, employs hundreds of employees to build these frame structures.

Every year, low-road construction contractors commit $10 billion of tax fraud. This money doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It’s money that is lawfully owed to fund social services like Medicare, Social Security and infrastructure projects. Simply put, construction tax fraud doesn’t just short workers money that they are legally owed, it takes money away from services that benefit all of us.

Union carpenters are protesting alleged wage theft and safety violations tied to Sundt Construction, calling attention to past labor law breaches and unsafe work conditions. They’re urging accountability and ethical contracting for future campus projects.
